The Chicora Businesses

The Chicora Coal, Iron, and Coke Company

The coal mine first originated in the year of 1900 by Lem White. The mine took out one hundred seventy five to two hundred tons per day. Uses of Machinery increased to five hundred tons per day.

The Millerstown Flour Mills

The Millerstown Flour Mills were built in 1869. They remodeled it in 1884. An eighty horsepower gas engine ran the factory.

The Millerstown Oil Exchange

The Millerstown Oil Exchange was organized in 1882. The president was Thomas Dorsey and Dr. S.D. Bell was the vice president. The exchange room was in the Central Hotel. This extreme business could not last. The members of it were wrecked financially in the end.
