Natural Disasters in Millerstown

On April first 1874, there was a great fire in Millerstown. Six lives were lost in the fire. The fire started at the Book house. The destruction was valued at a total of $200,000 dollars.

Another fire took place in Millerstown on December 6, 1877. It was started in C.F. Aldinger’s tobacco store. Twenty-eight buildings were destroyed. Destruction totaled $120,000 dollars.

Another fire at Millerstown started on June 15, 1892. It resulted in the total destruction of twenty-five houses. In addition, seven more houses were greatly damaged.

After these fires, the Chicora Borough council enacted an ordinance. That ordinance led to the development of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Company.
