The First Settlers of Millerstown
Bill Fedorek and Mark Rob
The first settler in the area that is now Chicora was James Hemphill. He came in between the years of 1794 and 1795. He enjoyed hunting. Usually he would hunt at the top of a tree near a salt lick.
In 1796, Philip Rudolph and Daniel Barnhart came. They were brothers. They did not bring their families on the first trip. However, they brought them on the second trip.
Next was Charles Duffy. He came in 1796. He was a native of Ireland. He came from Westmoreland County. He came to see relatives from Butler that were well know as the Duffy family.
Soon after Moses Hanlen came. She was an important settler. She was very smart. People noted her for the righteousness of her decisions in changing the differences in the medical conditions that the settlers had.
