                        To Chicora!

A history of the Chicora area beginning with the oil boom in the 1870's.

The following links contain information that has been researched and written by the Sixth grade students of Chicora Elementary School.

The Karns City School district received a Digital Grassroots Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to fund the KC PRIDE (Petroleum Refinery Industry Development Education) project.

Project Overview The KC PRIDE project was developed to research the history of our area concentrating on the influence of the oil boom.  Students in grades 6-12 have been researching, interviewing, and creating web pages about the unique history of our area.

The sixth grade students at Chicora Elementary visited the Butler Public Library to gather research.  The students found a lot of valuable resources in the genealogy department.  A special thanks to Luanne R. Eisler, the Genealogist at Butler Public Library.

The Butler County Historical Society also assisted with the project.  They added valuable information to our project.  You can learn more about the Butler County Historical Society at http://www.butlercountyhistoricalsociety-pa.org

A special thanks to Mr. Calvin Stevens of Karns City who shared his knowledge and pictures with the Chicora Sixth Grade.
