Gabriel Pontius was one of the first settlers in Millerstown. He started a business in pottery. He made many items like dishes, bowls, pitchers, smoking pipes, and other accessories. He did well in the pottery business.

The Barnharts were one of the first families to settle Barnhart Mills. There were three brothers: Philip, Rudolph, and Daniel. They had three cousins: Jacob, Andrew and Peter. The six of them settled the immediate neighborhood. Philip laid out Millerstown.

Other people were early settler settlers too. Like Archibald McCall Sr. and his family were some of the first settlers in Millerstown.  William Hartman is said to be the first white male child born in Millerstown. James Hemphill built a distillery before 1803.
