Transportation

In the early 1800’s, many people farmed, and had horses. Some of these people used the horses for work. Others used them for transportation. They would hook buggies, carts, and or carriages to the horses for a lift into town.
Other people bought cars. Most people still rode horses or walked because cars were too expensive and only the rich could afford them. Then, in 1908, Henry Ford made the model T ford. At that time, most people drove cars. The horse and buggy was no longer needed.
Another way people traveled was by trains and railroads. There was a train that went from Parker to Butler through Chicora. It was a narrow gauge railroad. The train came through Chicora at 10:00 a.m., 3:23 p.m., and 8:14 p.m. Therefore, people could ride the train at any of these times listed.
